1st Turkish Congress of Trauma & Emergency Surgery

It was performed at Istanbul Swiss Hotel between 19-23 September, 1995. The distribution of 905 participants were; 785 physicians (87 %), 102 residents (11 %) and 18 nurses (2 %). There were 10 panel sessions and 8 conferences. Several experts were invited for these talks. Our invited guests for these panels and conferences were: Howard R Champion, Norman E McSwain, Rao R Ivatury, Ibrahim M Ibrahim, David N Herndon, Kenneth G Swan from the U.S.A., Raymond Ross and AF Watkinson from the U.K. , V Hoffmann from Germany, and RJA Goris from Netherlands. The congress president was Omer Turel M.D who is a Professor of Surgery.

405 presentations were accepted. Among these 283 were retrospective reviews (80 %), 34 were prospective studies (10 %), 23 were case reports (7 %), 5 experimental studies and 7 others (2 %). Subjects were general surgery (47 %), Orthopedics (9 %), Cardiovascular Surgery (9 %), Neurosurgery (7 %) and Emergency Medicine (5 %).
